Even though the situation has changed quite a bit, Japanese Role Playing Games (JRPGs) are still kind of rare on PC. They still don’t really feel at home on this platform, after all these years of console exclusivity. Slowly, this is changing, with more and more games getting ported to the PC and published on Steam. Some of those ports aren’t all that good, as we have seen with the Tales of Symphonia HD port. With that in mind, let’s have a first looks at the Steam port of Mugen Souls Z, which was originally released on PS3 back in 2013!

First Impressions: Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE

It’s concerning that besides a couple of digital releases, the Wii U does not receive any support anymore. Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE is one of the few games that make 2016 a worthwhile last year for Nintendo’s console, especially for a JRPG fans. I’ve now spent a couple of hours with the game and I can safely say it’s the best JRPG on the system and one of the best in the genre for this year. That’s saying something, seeing how many great JRPGs are being released this year.

Japanische Rollenspiele hatten es in der vergangenen Konsolengeneration gar nicht leicht. „Final Fantasy“ ist im Niveau mächtig gesunken und die meisten anderen Rollenspiele aus dem Hause Square Enix blieben weit hinter den Erwartungen, was Qualität anging, zurück. Doch scheinbar schlagartig haben sich einige Dinge in der Industrie getan, die das Genre wieder auferstehen ließen.

Bravely Default

Der Nintendo 3DS hatte 2013 ein besonders gutes Jahr. Eigentlich könnte man schon so weit gehen und dem kleinen Handheld zugestehen, dass es mitunter das beste Software-Angebot hatte. Im Dezember erschien Bravely Default und da ich in letzter Zeit nur selten gute Erfahrungen mit Titeln von Square Enix gemacht hatte, zögerte ich, es mir gleich zu kaufen. Doch die Kritiken kamen und lobten das Spiel auf jeder Ebene. Ein weiteres Must-Have im Line-Up des 3D-Handhelds also?
